Portrait de Elisa Shua Dusapin

Born in 1992 to a French father and a South Korean mother, ELISA SHUA DUSAPIN grew up in Paris, Seoul, and Porrentruy. A graduate of the Swiss Literary Institute in Biel, she publishes her novels with Zoé, and they have been translated into more than thirty-five languages. Winter in Sokcho (2016) won, among other awards, the Robert Walser Prize. Its English translation received the 2021 National Book Award for Translated Literature. It will be adapted for film and staged several times for the theater. This was followed by The Pachinko Marbles (2018), winner of the Swiss Literature Prize, Vladivostok Circus (2020), and The Old Fire (2023), winner of the Wepler Prize. In Except for the Border (2026), she travels to southern Lebanon on the final day of a literary festival in Beirut, October 7, 2023, unaware of what is happening on the other side of the border in Israel. A few months later, a premonition compels her to return urgently to the Middle East. Both luminous and somber, this work avoids simplistic dichotomies. It offers a fresh perspective on this region and on violence.
