The new General Director of the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Alain Perroux brings Frank Martin’s world to life through music, memory and anecdotes.
Alain Perroux was born in Geneva where he studied literature, singing and conducting at the Conservatoire. Following eight years as a music critic, he served as dramaturg and editor at the GTG from 2001 to 2009. From 2003 to 2011, he directed the Opéra de Poche de Genève. He then worked as Artistic Director at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence from 2009 to 2020. He is the author of L'Opéra, mode d'emploi (L'Avant-Scène Opéra, 2000 and 2015) and La comédie musicale, mode d'emploi (Premières Loges, 2009), as well as two studies on Frank Martin and Franz Schreker (Papillon, 2001). In 2015, he created various adaptations for the Festival d'Aix and the Opéra national de Lorraine. From 2020 to 2026, he was the General Director of the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, Mulhouse and Colmar. This automne he will succeed Aviel Cahn as General Director of the GTG. Alain Perroux’s talk will be puctuated by Frank Martin’s Jedermann Monologues, performed by baritone Georgiy Derbas-Richter and accompanied at the piano by Jean-Paul Pruna.
